Hello! I’m Kim and in case you couldn’t already tell, I’m an artist. I’ve painted and drawn since I was extremely young, but only in the last year or so have I began sharing my work with others and creating more regularly.

A few years ago when I started as a university student at the University of Alberta,  I was nervous about what I wanted to be when I grew up. Naturally I figured there was no way to make a living as an artist so I tossed art aside and scurried off to my organic chemistry class, thinking I had made the right choice. However, after a few years went by as an immunology and infection student, I realized there was nothing about my degree that made me happy and I had given up the hobbies I loved to pursue it. I slowly started to introduce the two things I loved back into my life; painting and reading.

After about six months of getting back into art I realized that in order to be happy I needed to make a drastic change and completely switch faculties. In a year I’ll be graduating from the Faculty of Arts at the University of Alberta with a major in English Literature and a minor in Art and Design. I’m a big believer that if you love something enough and put in the effort then you can make a career out of it!

I primarily work with acrylic paint and colored pencils, but I like experimenting with new mediums whenever I can. My painting  style always seems to be changing but the one that’s stayed the same is my love for painting wildlife and flowers. I love painting with a limited color palette. It’s less stressful because I find I can just paint without worrying about color and I tend to really like how projects completed with a limited palette look when finished. I also love painting with bright and unnatural colors for my subject matter.

When I’m not painting or drawing I’m either reading, doing yoga or eating way too much ice cream at the farmer’s market. I love clothes shopping a little too much and even though I paint with such bright colors, I tend to wear a lot of black and grey (but I guess this way I never clash with my artwork)! I have a little calico kitty named Olive who I am practically obsessed with. She’s my best buddy, even though I’m 95% sure she despises  me unless I’m holding food.

I hope you enjoy exploring my site! You can follow me on social media if you want to stay up to date on my latest projects!
